I asked Mom what I could do to help tonight
and she said, "Write the family letter." So here it is:
This week was pretty uneventful..
Hannah and Derrick came into town on
Tuesday night and we were able to all eat delicious Filipino pork shawarma’s
together Wednesday!
Thursday bright and early we had the self
reliance training for the missionaries who were leaving that transfer.. and me,
who Mom forced into going. I've has been a valuable undercover spy for them
these past weeks. They just leave me in different mission meetings to see how
they run when we aren't around.
On Thursday night we had a truly wonderful
time watching Casablanca. It was everything I remembered and more!
Here is the reason why we watched it again:
“For here was Casablanca, a far-flung
outpost in a time of war. And here at the heart of the city, right under the
sweep of the searchlights, was Rick’s Café Américain, where the beleaguered
could assemble for the moment to gamble and drink and listen to music; to
conspire, console, and most importantly, hope. And at the center of this oasis
was Rick. As the Count’s friend had observed, the saloonkeeper’s cool response
to Ugarte’s arrest and his instruction for the band to play on could suggest a
certain indifference to the fates of men. But in setting upright the cocktail
glass in the aftermath of the commotion, didn’t he also exhibit an essential
faith that by the smallest of one’s actions one can restore some sense of order
to the world?”

One of the greatest moments of the week for
me was watching Dad walk back into a stake center Saturday morning, with a
missionary and a couple of ward members, just shining with happiness after
spending the morning working with them trying to clean up the ward list. He
loves going out with the missionaries and interacting with ward members and
investigators one-on-one. It was such a great sight to see everyone working
together, smiling and pushing forward.
We also were able to attend a beautiful
baptism that afternoon…
On Sunday we went to a long church meeting,
pretty much all in Tagalog, however, it is always so fantastic to be part of
this ward because our brothers and sisters here are just incredibly kind and
hungry to learn and serve.
